These are my golden years. Time to take it easy, relax, and do things I have always wanted to do but never had the time for. I lived a very busy life in Silicon Valley for over 25 years. I retired ten years ago, in 2016, and returned to a more peaceful and calmer life in our native Wisconsin.
A long time ago, I was driving along Big Sur in California. There, I saw an elderly couple sitting in beach chairs beside their parked RV, wearing sun hats and looking out at the ocean. On the back of one chair were the words “No Hurry,” and on the other, “No Worry.” That image stayed with me. A few years ago, I remembered that scene and thought NoHurryNoWorry would be a wonderful name for a website devoted to my personal reflections. I searched on GoDaddy, and to my pleasant surprise, the domain was available. I grabbed it!
Then I started thinking about how to use it. I enjoy gardening, cooking, traveling, and writing about various subjects. Over the years, a few subjects have become particularly dear to me. Lately, Artificial Intelligence, or AI, has become a subject of great interest, concern, and controversy. Having worked in data technologies all my life, I have developed my own perspective on this subject. I am studying and exploring AI’s impact on society and our everyday lives and writing articles about it on my other website, Datagenius.com.
Two other subjects very dear to me are happiness and human values. I have been exploring both for a long time. As a trained analyst, I look for logic, reasons, triggers, patterns, behaviors, and outcomes. I apply that thinking to understanding what makes people happy or unhappy. What are the triggers? How can we recognize and manage them to make life a little happier?
The other subject close to my heart is values. I believe a values-driven life can be very rewarding and satisfying. I have been exploring American values for a very long time. In today’s fast-paced world, learning about values and civic responsibilities often takes a back seat. With this in mind, I wanted to write a children’s book that would encourage young readers to learn the English language while becoming familiar with the traditional American values that have helped make our nation exceptionally great.
